Our Craftsmanship
"Behold the work of the old, Let your heritage not be lost. But bequeath it as a memory, treasure and blessing. Gather the lost and the hidden, and preserve it for your children."
- Christian Metz
Time-Honored Techniques
Our team of talented craftspeople create our heirloom-quality designs by hand – one-at-a-time –using centuries-old woodworking and cabinetry techniques. Each Ättlingar cabinet and mirror frame features thousands of intricately cut pieces of walnut, maple, mahogany and sycamore to create our signature inlays. The beauty and quality only expand upon examination of details that include elegant sawtooth shelving, and dovetail corner joining. Unlike the mass-produced, utilitarian versions, Ättlingar medicine cabinets take no shortcuts and are constructed from solid wood with expertly finished boxes and frames.
American Made
Every Ättlingar medicine cabinet and accessory is handcrafted to order in the United States. We believe that supporting generations-old trades and craftsmanship in America not only provides you with the highest quality available but ensures that these increasingly rare talents will continue to be nourished and shared.
Beauty & Purpose
We established Ättlingar for those who crave the functionality of a medicine cabinet without compromising style. Our cabinets are meant to outlive trends and become something treasured for years to come.
Swedish Heritage
Meaning “lineage” or “descendants” in Swedish, Ättlingar is a heartfelt nod to founder Siri Eklund’s Nordic heritage. Her great-grandfather, Carl Eklund, was an acclaimed cabinetmaker who established his workshop in 1917 near Chicago’s North Shore. The renowned cabinet shop is now home to the Glencoe Historical Society, where you can still find the Eklund Tool Room, showcasing archival cabinetry tools and crafts from the past.
